From those of you who have owned both helmets and assuming that the fit is equally good with each helmet, which do you prefer and why. I have a Shoei RF-1000 that I like alot and I am thinking about getting a second helmet with some graphics on it. The Arai Signet or the new Profile is the models of the Arai that fit me correctly.

Both are excellent. I currently use a Shoei X-11 because at the time I purchased it, it had the best ventilation system and is very stable at speed.(75 mph and above). I think Arai helmets are just a little bit lighter and more comfortable though. I would say that the one that fits you the best and provides features that are important to you is the one to go with, regardless of brand.

I'll second what Wildcat said and add that I really like the way the face shield changes so quickly and easily in the Arai after you understand the system. I can swap shields in less than a minute including putting the unused shield in it's sheath.

everyone's going to say the same thing here- both arai and shoei make excellent helmets, the "best" one is the one you're most comfortable in. there may be differences like face shield mechanisms, wind resistance, etc, but an uncomfortable helmet is a way bigger distraction when you're on the road than any of those things. most everyone has either an arai head or a shoei head- try them both on and see which you like best. odds are one will fit you better than the other.

personally i have a shoei x-11 (vermeulen graphics) and i absolutely love it. i haven't actually ridden at speed with a top-end arai, but i hear they're slightly noisier due to the face shield mechanism.

I'm with Longshot92,
what fits your head best IMHO is the best helmut for you.
I use a Suomy, I have had Arai and HJC and others I can't even remember.
What fits your scone may nmot fit mine etc. Very much a personal preference issue I think.

I have the RF1000, called XR1000 downunder; cool helmet .. light, fits well, good aerodynamics, reasonable ventilation and only moderately noisy for a helmet with all those vents.

Drawbacks: can't remove the liner for washing, and the lever preset mechanism for visor opening broke after two weeks.

I'd buy another like a shot.

Earlier helmets were a KBC VR1 and an HJC fibreglass (can't remember the model).

The reason I made to the disclaimer about fit in the opening post was because I know fit is the prime consideration. I was curious about things like wind noise and areodynamics etc. The fit between the Shoei RF1000 and the Arai Signet seem to be the same. The Suomy is made fro a more rounded head, my head is a long oval so the Suomy doesn't fit my Cabeza.
Noise, weight, ventalation and the shield are the things I hoped to get some information on. These are the things that are hard to evaluate until you have spent some time wearing the helmet. Even if it fits perfect you can't tell about noise and wind buffeting etc. until you put some mile on the helmet.

I've had both the Signet GT and Quantum S. Fit was excellent on both, but the Quantum got smelly after a few summers. Liner was not removeable and the spray stuff just changed the smell from armpit to sweet armpit. They are a bit noisy and I am looking for something quieter.

I used to have a Signet GT and absolutely loved it. It did its job when I crashed, so I wanted to get another one this summer.

Arai doesn't make it anymore. It's been replace with the Signet GTR. Now, the complete liner is removeable. (In the GT, only the cheek pads could be removed).

It is noisy at speed, but I wear earplugs.

OK, fit completely aside. The Arai will be a little noisier than some Shoei helmets. I have not worn the RF1000 on a good ride but the RF900 was slightly quieter than my Quantum. The ventilation improved a great deal from the 900 to the 1000 and I expect the noise level came up as well. I have never used a helmet with better ventilation than my Arai Quantum. That is really important to me because I ride every single day and summers are hot here in Texas. Again, I prefer the shield mechanism on the Arai because of the quick change. I also change shields at least once a day because I ride in the dark and the sun. I have installed a headset in my helmet and appreciate the way the Arai cheek pads are designed as well. For simplicity, cost, the slight edge in wind noise and availability, you might prefer the Shoei. The best deals I have made on Arai have been at Cycle Gear stores. Most other dealers don't discount them. Shoei can be bought from any dealer and often at deep discounts.

Hope this was more helpful than my first post.
