Running rich

All of a sudden my 2001 has started to run very rich, particularly when cold i.e. in the morning. Feels like she's almost running on two cylinders at startup, once over 2 1/2 or 3 thou revs it clears. Replaced air cleaner, which was reasonably clean, fuel consumption has gone high too. Pulls very well but do notice lots of exhaust gases when given full bore. No oil being burnt. A good whack of the throttle at tickover (up to 6k revs) sees a goodly puff of black smoke too.

Is there a mixture control screw as per carbs on this injected lump.

The first thing I would check is your plugs. I dont know which one is what number, but when sitting on the bike the one on the left seems to be prone to fouling. Water gets into the plug area and rusts it up. My bike had this problem when I bought it used.
Another thing that I experienced was my battery was getting old and tired and barely had enough juice to get the bike started. I dont think the alternator puts out its full rated output at idle, so the combination of the weak battery and low alternator output translated into weak spark. If the bike is cold and running richer than at normal operating temps this is a bad combo that could be your issue.
Maybe you are experiencing a combination of the 2. Just my 2 cents.

Plugs sounds like a good place to start to me. Fuel settings are managed by the ECM and cannot be changed without the Triumph ECM tool or a Tune Boy. Also be careful when reinstalling the airbox so not to bunch up intake boots or IAC valve gasket.

Let us know how you make out.
