Sprint GT Improvements
Hi all,
My GT is now performing superbly after two changes. Ditched the atrocious standard Bridgestone tyres and replaced them with Michelin PR2's. Now it loves corners and doesn't 'tram- track'!!
Changed the front sprocket to an 18 tooth. Now the acceleration is unbelieveable! Almost Rocket 3 like! And the over tall top gear is now useable below 3000rpm!! Highly recommended changes! Too early to tell if fuel economy has changed..but I really don't care, the bike is too much fun to ride now!
Cheers,
Crownie

Gotta agree with ya Crownie, did the same to mine but held on to the Bridegestones for 7k B4 i ditched them for PR3s and the 18t front yeah just as u say makes it nice all round. I also put a Trident S/S can on it just to hear that great triple sound better!, done just on 12k on mine now and enjoy it more every time i ride it. Enjoy ur ride hey.

Crownie
You might want to experiment with the tire pressures on the PR2's for even better results.
My '08ST likes 34F/36R(solo riding) much better than the factory recommended pressures.

I'm in 6th by 50mph, don't recall the RPM but it's low and there's no lugging.

I haven't done of a lot of milage on my Bridgestones yet (around 800 miles) but I havent noticed anything wrong with them. What did you dislike so much about these tyres?

When I got my GT new, I thought the Bridgestones were pretty decent. Coming from a 1998 Sprint running with Avons, I was happy. After about 3000 miles the front was badly cupped, so I had to replace it, opted to replace both on dealer recommendation with Pirelli Angels. Then I found out why everyone dislikes the Bridgestones. The Pirellis transformed the handling from good to extraordinary along with very good rain performance. At 6000+ miles, no sign of cupping yet. If you like the way your GT handles now, you will be amazed when you have to replace the Bridgestones, if you get the Pirellis or Michelins.

I'm learning just how horrible the stock tires are. They are made for highway riding. If you do curves the sides of the tires wear faster than the middle, and get a V shape to the front. Mine is starting to feel like I'm riding on skinny bicycle tires. I may wait till spring time to swap mine out. My dad runs the same tire on his FJR, and the front V's real bad but he doesn't mind it, must be that he grew up with a chopped out harley, unstable feeling doesn't bother him.
I'm curious about the sprocket change. I've felt that the bike just isn't geared low enough. Anyone here swap the sprocket and not like it?
