Such great bikes and with great looks (especially recently IMO) yet not really well known or marketable for parts like a Japanese sportbike is. Anyhow, anyone here lost one to theft or know of it happening to another Sprint or Triumph owner?? I'm looking to own one in the near future and though nothing will keep me from being super-paranoid, how much of it is justified

There are already topics on the best theft-retardant measures (like flame retardant, still burns if you try hard enough... you get the idea) so I'm not looking for that, but that said, I relinquish control of the discussion :hammer:

There`s probably a whole heap gone missing in the UK. Triumph parts are not cheap so would be fairly lucrative to dismantle one and sell off the parts on e-bay. Plus in London, bored teens will nick any bike that they can reach the pegs on, to "Thrash it, Trash it n`Torch it." Sad but true.

Chris,
I've been on this forum 18 months and remember only one stolen and crashed big time in the US (I think it was in the US, not sure now). A few in the UK and some in Australia but few, if any here.
I have heard that one cannot get insurance in the UK unless the bike has an anti-theft device. What say our English brothers (and sisters), is that true?

Near where I live there is a Home Depot (do it yourself type of store) where one of the cashier ladies rode a 2002 Speed Triple. It was the lime green, so it was hard to miss. Saw here lots when I went in there, one day she said the bike was stolen. Didn't seem like the thing to do to ask the Where When type of questions at that time.

Rice rockets in Phoenix, I hear about it all the time. Triumphs - they are still in the minority, so little demand = little theft.

A friend's ST in Pennsylvania was stolen from her house.

Then there was the incredible one. Flipping through the channels one night I saw a familiar blue bike. Somewhere down in Florida a ST was stolen and it was filmed on "Cops". Only caught the cops looking at the bike after they hauled the thief away and how the ignition was busted up.

Hi guys, I don't think Triumph Bikes are any more of a target than any other over here in the UK. Normal sensible precautions like ( disk locks, chain locks) are advisable when left parked in the street during daylight hours. Most Insurance companies insist that for overnight parking at your home address the bike must be locked up in a garage/shed etc. not left on your drive.
It is not true that insurers wont cover you if you do not have an immobilizer fitted, they just raise the premium.
I would certainly be very nervous about leaving my bike out at night in any large City in the UK, just the same as I would be about leaving my car.

Cheers

Peter
