jetsons noise

does anybody know what part of the engine on the st 1050 makes what i call the jetson's noise (cartoon). that wine, shrill, whistle at low revs. what is that?

Quite a lot of that sound comes from the pipes, that sound went away on mine after installing aftermarket pipes.

I always assumed it had to do with the induction system.... Put loud pipes on and you won't hear it much...

I've never worked it out but sounds kind of cool - like a turbine

It's usually caused by gear whine. You want to hear a Jetson's mobile? Take a listen to an ST1300. I've heard they attribute to the gear-driven crap inside.

It's the straight cut primary gears. Don't worry - be happy - ride.

BTW, I'm not complaining, I love the symphony of different sounds that give the ST the soul. I have fav sound periods, sometimes the bark around 3K, sometimes the big induction just before things get going...

straight cut gears CLB? I thought that would be more a wine eg reverse gear in most manual gearboxes on cars...

The same noise come from the back if an early Volkswagen beetle, change the pipes on them and they sound like a Subaru
