2005 sprint st

Guys

It's my first post.

I have got the funds in place to purchase my next motorcycle. It's the age old story of man has baby.... So rather than do without a bike I'm looking for a compromise.

A 2005+ sprint ST looks to tick all the boxes.
Heritage brand, low entry price to purchase, reasonable running costs.

At what milage should you not consider. I.e would abide with fsh and 30k be acceptable but 50k is pushing my luck...

Any words of encouragement from those in the know.

How about an RS there's a low mileage Black 2004 one on ebay in Oldham not far from you. The RS is an underrated bike. Knock the price down as its winter.
Cheers Paul

Hi, welcome and good luck etc.
All I can easily say is service history/condition is a bit more important than miles. Think hammered round town from cold, lots of short runs with added wheelies then think crusing up and down motorway.
From looking at stuff, IMHO, not cause I have one, late RS would seem better value if you can find one!
Whatever best of luck with it all Mick

Cheers guys, I've not really considered an RS.

Mainly because I have just enough to pop on the ST, I love the look of the ST and I've always wanted the 1050 triple.

There are a few available below the £4000 mark.... Funny thing is most of them are around 22k miles.... I'm guessing because the big service is due so the owners off loaded the bike before they got stung for the service..

I think I could get a 2005 for less than £3500 which is the budget.

I'm a little concerned about the reg issues though...

Reg issues are solved easily enough for ~£100, and not in any way exclusive to Sprints or Triumphs. The only concern I would have about a bike with 22k on it is the service you mention.

Do yourself a favor, though: when you're looking, let the bike idle until it's up to temp, then rev it to 4-5k while watching the tail pipe. Some people on this site swear there are some out there that don't burn any oil, but I've never seen one myself.

Cheers,
-Kit
