There are things that I carry often, but what I always have:
My wallet that contains my license, insurance (bike, medical, dental) credit card, debit cards, AMA membership card, and hospital card. I have a flash drive that I always wear with all my ICE info, I have extra ear plugs, eyeglasses cleaner and helmet shield cleaner and my cell phone.

Nobody carries a spare key???? My husband I learned that lesson the hard way a few years back when the key broke off in his gas cap and we didn't have the extra one with us. It made for a long day of running around since we were out of town.

I do carry a spare key and of course my wallet with charge card and my smartphone so I can find the nearest dealer, restaurant or whatever else I may crave. Many of those same destinations can be found on my always-updated Garmin Zumo 550 that's also always on the bike.
I also have a little first aid kit in the tank bag, plus a little breath freshener spray bottle filled with a Windex like cleaner and microfiber cloth for cleaning my facesheild.
When I have my panniers on for a longer ride I have a toolkit (better than the OE one under the seat), a short, flattened roll of duct tape, various small to extra-long zip ties, and a 12V air compressor.

I still carry a map and compass along with the first aid kit, tire repair kit, assorted hand tools, cell phone and my wallet with the normal stuff. Any time I have long pants on I have the Leatherman PST so that does not count. I have a spare pair socks stored on both bikes, I hate wet socks!

I have a spare key attached to my bike in a secret location.........
Only me and my mechanic knows where.

Um yes I,m not so sure I need water to nip to the shops, at least round here anyway.
Also I suppose if you have got the sidearm you don't really need anything else!

For long multiday trips:
zip ties, tow band, siphon tube, chain link, multidriver c/w allen & socket bits, duct tape, chain lube, wet & dry towel, spare ear plugs, small binoculars, tire plug kit c/w C02, Passport, wallet & cell phones, maps & DH book.
I pare it down a bit for short trips.
