crashed my sprint
like the title says crahsed my 06 st 1050 today after haveing a new tire front tire installed last night (dunlop sportmax q2),
i know you are not supposed to ride aggressively for the first 100 miles (which i wasn't) i was going about 15 mph into a turn not leaning or anything crazy next thing i know i'm sliding and the bike is in front of me. luckily there was no traffic or anything that could have damaged me or the bike more.
damage :
-tail fairing + right case infill panel (took the brunt of the impact)
-side case right rail split in half( any suggestions on repairing this?)
-small scratches and crack on lower right fairing (lsl crash pads did their job) nothing else damaged other than scuffed leathers ,boots and helmet visor
the most aggravating part is that the chrome swoosh part came off the bike but was ok until an old man ran over it as i was lifting the bike up
was able to make it back home less than a mile away and scuffed the tires up with sand paper, something i had never done before. but man these q2 was really slippery when new. I though companies didn't put weird dangerous slick substances on tires to get them out of the molds anymore?
anyway here are some pics

Sorry to hear of your off, man, but glad it wasn't worse and you're okay. Could've been the road and not the tire; also could've been cold tires? I was just noticing mine seemed to be slipping a bit the last couple day, but I thought it was probably just me. Luckily, last night, I was trading a friend some computer parts for bike parts and he mentioned he'd noticed the same thing. Anyway, hope you get her fixed up soon and the day after soft tissue damage isn't too bad.
Cheers,
-Kit

Bugger! Sorry to hear; glad you're OK - as they say, any crash you can walk away from...

Sorry to hear of your off ST-Bandit
but I doubt it was the Q2's I have had about 4 sets on my Daytona 955 and never experienced anything like that with new tyres.
Hope you can get her fixed up real quick and glad you are not hurt.
You may have hit either a patch of glycol which is invisible or diesel.
all the best Dave

I'm with you, it must have been sand, diesel, oil etc. I have done the naughty and pushed new tyres before they were scrubbed in ( a while ago) and all I got was a slight uneasiness of feel.
Go back and look at the spot you came off.
Glad you are ok.

Glad you're ok. Looks like you have a winter project, now. Hope you get her all fixed up.

yup let the winter repair project begin, im thinking of getting a red tail fairing and painting the lower part of the fairings red (under the st 1050 decal are ) also paint the center of the front fender red , sort of to give it that union jack theme without painting the flag on the bike, what do you guys think?
also will JB weld work for fixing the broken luggage rail? or is there a better product for this?

Is the rail hollow? JB weld isn't so much of an adhesive as it is a filler, in my experience. Glueing that rail and recovering the strength could be tricky. It is holding your pannier along with it's contents.
Now if you were to fit a pin or tube inside of it to join it together, along with an adhesive, that might do the trick.
As far as the paint goes, what you have in mind sounds good. A little white between the red and blue would really do it up nicely for a Brit theme. I think.

In my opinion - a combination of both new tyre and **** on road surface. If u had a scrubbed in or had an old front tyre - it will hold up better in a small patch of slippery..but with the addition of of the slickery crap they coat on those new tyres to help them exit the moulds - you'll go down for sure. Case in point - local Hayley Davison dealer told me last year (I was in for a new front tyre on my Sprint) they fitted a new tyre to an HD and TOLD the silly fat bastard owner to go SLOW on the tyre for a while. He was seen leaving the workshop with a generous handful of throttle as he turned onto the road..went down as he rode across the vehicle crossing...luckily he landed on his tassles.
