Speedo problem again

Hi Kit, if the speedo shows speed when turning backwards, I suppose that the sheet metal part with the 2 teeth in the frontwheel could be damaged too.

Thanks, thap8riot. I just don't understand how the sensor could've been damaged, as it's been several months and thousands of miles since I've touched the front wheel.

Also, here's an additional data point: the speedo registers moving backward just as it always has; it's only moving forward that's glitchy.

Cheers,
-Kit
I don't remember how long mine took to go bad. I know that the 2 teeth were bent and not in the magnet slots but were still turning the magnet. It took a while for the pressure to crack the magnet. Again, I don't remember how long that took, but it may have been several weeks and 1000 or more miles. Let us know what you find.

Well, this seems to be why my speedo was erratic:

Note that the edges of the cracks obviously used to line up, but are much too worn to do so any more. I've dressed the driven edges with a file until I can spare the cash for one of Juergen's alloy/neodymium rings; it works for the moment.

Cheers,
-Kit

Well, dressing the edges of the magnet with a file worked for about 50 miles.

I got the part from Germany today and it worked great, for six miles.

Time to look at the drive ring, I guess...

Did you put grease to the ring from all sides?

Yes, lots of grease. I'm about to go pull it apart again; I'll try to get some pics as well.

Cheers,

Please take a photo from the cleaned ring in the housing. I sold more than 50 of them in 2 years and nobody mentioned any probs, so I am very interested in a solution and to find out the reason. Can you move the ring with force?

Here are some pics of the magnet ring with the grease removed:

I used penetrating oil and this setup to try to move it; it does not move.

Currently riding with the drive ring removed.

It seems, that the drive ring has overrun the grooves in the magnet ring and deformed it. I think, the straightened drive ring will work right with a new magnet ring. I'll send a new one for free.
