Definitely overly worried mate.
The post is what the mirror is pressed onto, and what you are unfastening when you remove the bolts from the underside of the assembly.

You dont need to pivot the mirror to get the post out, you need to pivot the post itself (but you will have to push on the mirror to do it once the bolts are out, sounds stupid but you will see what i mean when you do it!).

Dont be afraid, just dont use too much pressure as what i learnt with my efforts, its all a little fragile!

Yep. Just ease the mirror and post out once you remove the screws. You have to rock it back and forth little by little easing the mirror out. The 'connection' at the top is just a friction piece. Just don't let the mirror fall out like I did. Always keep a hand on it once those bottom screws are out.

Got the clear lenses in this weekend and completed the mod. Also got some 921NA amber bulbs off Amazon. Very pleased with the result. I also replaced the phillips head machine screws holding the mirror on with black allen head machine screws from Lowes. No more screw removal issues.

It's official Invercargill New Zealand does not have amber bulbs to fit the sprint so ill see if eBay can help, shipping becomes a drama though....

I was under the impression that the original bulbs behind the orange lenses are orange/amber already?

Not on my '06 ABS.

I actually colored them amber with an orange sharpie I had in the house...it works.

Not on my US non-ABS 2006. Clear bulbs only. Amber bulbs on Amazon.com for $1.75 (US) each.
