I have used Hastings rings, they were very good and fit proper like. I was on a TR5T.

Take her up to highway speeds once she is already warm and have a buddy follow you. Have him/her watch to see if the bike smokes more when you dump a bunch of throttle and down shift to slow down. Smoking more doing that rather than when you are speeding up or just running a long has been a pretty safe bet the stem seals are shot from bikes I've seen. Blowing more while rolling on has always meant rings more than stem seals in my experience.

Best of luck Kit, your one man that needs it!

Hastings doesn't know sizes for the 955s, so I may try to measure one of my old pistons and get them that info.

Hopefully, I'll be able to get my hands on a leakdown tester this weekend and figure it out.

Cheers,
-Kit

I think the info they need is actually in the FSM. We shall see...

Not that I expect to be on this any time soon, but I've sent the specs to Hastings and hope to hear back soon.

Cheers,

The specs in the manual weren't enough for Hastings, so I had to actually pull a piston from the old motor and measure it. Unfortunately, they've just gotten back to me to say they have nothing that will work.

Anybody got any other ideas for suppliers? The woman from Hastings said it sounded like Nippon Piston Ring was probably the OEM.

Cheers,
-Kit

Don't know if they are Nippon, but wouldn't be surprised. They supply many, many mfgrs on all continents.

You may have already found this, but in case you haven't:

I might have missed it, but did you ask Sandy if he had a source other than a dealer?

Thanks. The rings are consistent with NPR 777 type. Spaced out and asked Sprint Mfg. instead of Triumph'ant; I'll email Sandy now. (Sprint doesn't have 'em for sure.)

Cheers,
-Kit

Sandy says he's never needed to source third party rings, as he's only ever had to put new ones in once.

Cheers,
-Kit
