Talking Is check engine light on?

Bad fuel sender should trigger that.
If you replace it do a search on fuel fittings (replace them with metal - e.g., Colder) and problems with fiberglass tank swelling (so much the mounting bolts don't line up).
Had the joys of dealing with both when I replaced mine.

As far as I know the earlier fuel tanks are Plastic made by a Acerbis they are not fibreglass.
They have been commonly used on Triumph's and Ducati's.

Triumph's and Ducati's in the USA have often reported blistering and other problems since the high usage of ethanol fuels.

Latter models changed to steel. AFAIK anyhow.

Thanks to all for the comments and advice. I priced up a new unit yesterday. I'm waiting to hear what the wiring looks like but if it's good it will be time for the new sensor.

Considering the bikes age amd milage it's been good so far. A dodgy fuel sensor and a flapping mirror are pretty minor problems to deal with.

Sometimes they will trigger the MIL, but only if the tank gets very low (like under half a gallon/2 liters). Mostly, though, they just trigger the low fuel warning.

Cheers,
