just picked up my rs yesterday from the dealer after 3 1/2 weeks to fix speedo and check battery. one guy started it and rode 30' to the truck, then shut it off. i went to start it this morning and it cranked a few seconds and was dead. i've had it on the charger all day and it will not start, just for maybe half a second. i smell gas and would like to pull the fuel pump fuse and crank it to blow out engine but have no idea which fuse it is. can anyone tell me? what is procedure for starting a flooded bike? they didn't bother to check the battery... it keeps going dead. needs a battery imo. j

jellero,
if it was convenient I'd get her back to the dealer somehow. Stlakid or Don might have some clues.

good luck, can't be to serious.

jellero,
i signed on this morning to tackle the same problem on my 03 st. i was planning on eating lunch with pack, went out and climbed on it (40 degrees out) and it would not start. i also smelt gas and also ran battery down. i was thinking the same as far as stopping the fuel pump so it would dry out. i hope you can get a response (for you and me). ride safe.

40!!?? geez it was 5 earlier. i have a small box heater blowing on engine now and the charger going for a few hours.
i had a mazda rx-7 that flooded out all the time. i would just pull the fuel injector/pump fuse, crank it, relace fuse it started right up.
it takes the whole day to get to the nearest dealer and i am convinced they either don't listen or don't know what they are doing. suppose your problem is a battery not holding a charge. charging system checks out fine and no current drain can be found in bike. so what does that leave? (hint- i told them the battery had been tested and FAILED locally, plese test there). they "tested" it by parking bike in warehouse for 1 1/2 weeks and it started... i need a battery.
good luck. j

I'm just getting used to the sprint I got for the wife,it to is hard to start cold but trial has led to this procedure. crank for five to ten seconds twice, walk away for about a minute go back turn it on hit starter and this one will fire immediately. this has worked every time down to five degrees F. hope it helps. PS cranking more than ten seconds at a time appears to be counter productive.

(fuel pump and starter share the same fuse... i should have left the ignition off while being towed, then turned it on after drying out the engine. next time.) j

draft, the shop is open on a monday?? i pulled plugs and dried the engine, cleaned and tested plugs and got it going (posted in "engine light on"). it will be interesting to see what your dealer says. i don't think it is a good idea to start f.i. bikes when they are cold and shut them off still cold. j
