A couple items I noticed on my GT while removing the fairing on the RH side when on the bike:
In addition to the 5 steps above:
I also had to remove a screw on the upper fairing on the inner section (where the storage cubby is) to reveal a screw underneath the fairing when it is lifted a bit.. (the hidden screw is just aft of the lock barrel housing on the top of the side cowl.) The pin holding the fairing on after the fasteners are off is about 5 inches ahead of the weld on the anodized brace. You do NOT have to remove the nut on the L shaped brace you see between the fairing and the brace!
On my bike when I lifted the fairing off, there was two areas of foam material (similar to something for high end electronics packing) that had some sort of adhesive on both the engine side and the cowl side... have to talk to the local shop about what to do with that also when I put it back together. The more I get into this the more the 100 dollar shop rate per hour doesn't sound so silly.
It would help if the instructions for the R&G sliders were better though...
