I had one HOT Sprint...

Tuesday my bike decided it wanted catch fire. Well the stator and R/R plug to be exact. The fire kept going after I turned off the bike, fortunately I was able to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, borrowed from local public transit, before it really melted through the gas tank. The insurance company is going to write if off as a total loss. $5000 worth of damaged parts alone. I am hoping that I get a fair amount of my for my bike, and I wish that I could get the D&D exhaust off of her before they take it. A sad day for sure. I am going to miss my Sheila. Not sure what bike I am going to go with next, I've had some previous electrical problems with it a while back, so not sure if I want another Sprint.

Maybe a Daytona 955i or a Buell 1125r/cr. Thanks for sharing the knowledge with me about my bike. Be safe riding everyone.

Sorry to hear it, man! That's a problem connector on a lot of bikes; keep an eye on it on your new bike.

Whoa! That's a hot sprint alright. Educate the less mechanically inclined, now that I'm paranoid.. Where is this on a sprint gt?

That's awful man. I feel for you. I read how that is an issue. I'm picking up my '01 today. Is there a wiring fix for that? How can we take steps to reduce that potential?

It's under the left side black trim panel. It was moved to that location in '08.

That's another one you don't have to worry about with your '01 due to the alternator.

For the people who do have that connector, it's good to check it and make sure it's clean and firmly connected from time to time. If it's gone a bit melty, it's time for a new connector!

You don't absolutely have to have the Yazaki shell on there; you can use three separate .250" connectors as long as they're fully insulated. It doesn't matter which stator wire plugs into which connector.
