If I revved my 03 ST quickly, rather than return to idle the tack would drop straight to 0 and the engine would stop. Hit the starter and it would start right back up and idle properly. It developed the malady about a month ago and would do it every time I gave it a quick flick of the throttle. On the way to the shop today I tried it and sure enough it killed. I went in to have the fork oil change. Another story for another time. I had an appointment to have that done. Anyway!

Got the shop early and park the bike by the shop door. Little while later the mechanic comes in, starts the bike and puts it on the stand. I went into the shop and yelled, “don’t turn it off”. Too late, he hit the kill switch. That’s right; he didn’t turn the key off he hit the kill switch. I said restart it I want to show you something it’s doing. He cranked it back up and I revved it. It returned to idle. I revved it several times, some times higher revs some time quicker and so on. I returned to idle every time. I tried it several times on the way home and several times after I got home. It now returns to idle and continues running when revved. I wonder if hitting the kill switch caused the EMU to reset on the next startup. Sprints… Triumphs are strange beasts. :-D

hmmm! I guess at least you know what to do if it happens again. Interesting to see if it happens twice

If it starts doing it again I'll post the details. If I don’t post it’s fixed.

Jhumphrey, I was one of the lucky ones. I rode Katrina out in my home while my wife, daughter and grandson went to Texas. I had tree, fence and greenhouse damage. Also damage to the outside cage our Hyacinth Macaw spends the daylight hours in (8 X 10 portable building covered in chain link fencing with an aluminum roof). Dame to the house was a couple of bent gutters and three shattered ridge tiles. Compared to those around me I it was very light damage. Thanks for asking.

I said I’d repost if the problem returned. It has. It seems to only do it until the motor and I mean the motor not the water temp comes up to full temperature. My battery is getting a little week and I’m wondering if that may be causing the problem. I’ve found that the electrics in Triumphs can be just a little temperamental. Could also be a tune problem.
