I need to flush my coolant system and don't have a manual. Does anybody know where the coolant drain plug is on the motor? Thanks for any help. If anybody has a picture showing the location, itt would be even better. Unfortunately, I have never been able to find an online parts fiche for triumph. So if anybody has a picture of the drain bolt location, it would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jeffers

My radiator is in the shop getting welded so that is not an issue. I need to get the coolant out of the motor so I can flush it and there should be a drain bolt somewhere. I just don't want to find out by process of elimination, so I thought I would ask.

On the cylinder about half way up on the left hand side you'll see a small bolt. That is the only one other than pulling the hose at the bottom on the engine by the pump. That one is close to the kick stand. They recommend not re-using the bolt. I have used mine for three flushes

Jeffers,

From the manual, pg 10-4.

DRAINAGE
6. Remove the coolant drain plug and disconnect the bottom hose at the water pump.

FILLING

1. Refit the coolant drain plug (where DMc said it was) and tighten to 13Nm.
2. Reconnect the bottom hose at the water pump and secure with hose clip.
3. SLOWLY add coolant mixture to the system, through the radiator opening, until the system is full.
4. Fit a new washer to the radiator bleed screw. Refit the screw and tighten to 12Nm.
5. Refit the coolant pressure cap.
6. Reconnect the battery positive (red) lead first.
7. Start the motorcycle and allow the engine to idle for a short period of time to allow any air to be expelled from the system.
8.stop the engine and top off the coolant level as necessary.

HTH, Steve

Also,

If you want the Blue coolant, BMW and VW dealerships carry it. It's expensive.

I believe it's a G-48 spec or glycostantin. (at least that's what the BMW stuff is....I'm assuming the triumph stuff is the same).

Don't just remove the water jacket bolt, it will leave a lot of crud in the lower areas. Remove the lower radiator hose (on pump), it will completely drain the motor. Put a water hose in it and fill (back flush) to radiator cap, let overflow, remove water hose and let drain. Repeat until water is clear. Refill WITH distilled water and your choice of antifreeze.
