does anybody use one on the Sprint? I'm making a trip at teh beggining of next year and although I'll be in the south I know it will get chilly on the bike. I'm thinking of investing in an Aerostitch vest or jacket liner to wear under my textile jacket.

how much power can the factory socket support or am I better off wireing my own cord? anybody use a vest or liner they reccomend?

I already have Oxford brand heated grips with vari rate controller ( sooo nice on cold days)

I use my sprint powerlet outlet. However I made my own coat. Here is what I used as a guide http://www.shadowriders.org/faq/electricvests.html
I stay plenty warm with it.

BTW, I went to the local lawnmower repair shop and got the John Deere outlet end.

I have used the widder system 1 electric vest with the arm chaps and the electronic thermostat controller with no problems. I just had a second socket wired directly to the battery so my wife and I can both use an electric vest or I can plug in my Roady2 and still be warm. The second one has a 10amp fuse (I think that is what the dealer said). I did not do it myself as the bike was in for a new master brake cyclinder, under warranty, any way. The bike has the Triumph heated grips as well.

I use the widder vest and an old navy fleece. I've ridden in 24f and the only thing that was cold was my feet.

I use the Widder vest with arm chaps under a fleece top and a Motoport Spyder jacket and can ride all day in the 20's. Ive got a pair of Sidi "On Road" boots I use year around and have yet to suffer with cold or wet feet.

Up in this neck of the woods, I've found that gortex lined gear, be it jackets, boots, pants, or golves are necessary for spring and fall comfort.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Another user of the Widder vest w/variable adjust heat control. I have used it with the optional armchaps and heated gloves as well.
Excellent quality and, if you want, more heat than my body can take.

I've got Gerbing and Widder. The Gerbing is a vastly superior product.

well I have plenty of gore tex gear, boots/socks etc.

I was thinking the aerostitch full jacket liner under my joe rocket textile jacket, the jacket with fleece was what I wore on cold wet days in england. I have the heavy duty overpants as well, through on some flannel lined denim and off you go.

I just figure 2000 miles in Late aJanuary I might apprecieate some core heat. Fortunately I'm going from Georgia to Arizona so hopefully it won't be too cold/ wet plus I have several days so I don't need to push it if I don't want to.

I use Gerbings, and have the jacket liner and gloves. Work great. I've yet to pull 'em out on the "new to me" Sprint, but don't anticipate any issues, since the Sprint's alternator puts out more current than my Road King does. The jacket draws 77 watts (at full) and the gloves another 22 watts. At 13.8 volts (12v nominal) that equates to 7.17 amps. The liner alone would pull just 5.57 amps. I don't usually run the stuff much higher than half way (I have a "temptroller").

The socket is on the circuit protected by fuse #3, which is a 10a fuse. Other things on that circuit are heated grips (which you say you have). Running just the jacket liner, you'd have no problem I would think.
