Well, a little @#$%^@#$^ deer got me today. Ironically, en route to get the hose recall done. It was a small deer, probably not much more than a yearling. I hit it straight on, about dead center. Took out my fender and all the fairings (think speed triple look), as well as the radiator, glove box, coolant reservoir, etc. The recalled hose was also damaged. I don't know how my forks are doing. The left pannier was blown apart as well

I didn't drop the bike, and while the deer hit my leg, I wear Joe Rocket Ballistic pants and the armor took the brunt as it was supposed to, so I am just a little bruised.

I have Progressive, so it will be interesting to see how that goes. I worry it is right on the line between repairable and not repairable and could go either way. I am not excited about the idea of a repair because the last thing I want is a bent bike.

If they total it, I am not sure what I will do. I like the Triumph, but it is a huge pain in the butt having to go to Wenatchee (230 miles) to get any work done. Spokane has most everything else and is only 90 miles. 10 miles to the rather sketchy Yamaha dealership. Whatever I do, it won't be until Spring though. No sense making payments on a bike now just sitting in the garage. Unless it is one HECK of a deal.

Anyway, thanks to God to be able to walk away, and for the guardian angel riding 2 up.

First the moose near miss, and now this. I appreciate more and more hunters and keeping the deer numbers down a little. I won't hunt myself, but I have no gripes against hunters, that's for sure.

Hey mercator,
Best news is that you've still got the function of all your limbs and parts. I hit a deer over 20 years ago coming around a mountain corner and went off the side over 50'. Fortunately the good Lord was watching out for me as well.

The real b*tch is that if Triumph didn't have so ***** many recalls we wouldn't have to make the dealer runs. Not to blame Triumph for the accident, but gotta mention the lack of resources this company seems to have to fully debug a bike prior to intro. Kinda reminds me of the BMW mentality - Let the first couple of year buyers find out all the problems.

Seems like a lot of this has been going around. I know of two locals that hit the big vermin. One I know has an ST like mine. He was covered with deer poop from helmet to toes. Nasty off, but he came through ok. The bike has been repaired too.

Hey Mercator, so sorry to read about the loss of the loved one :wow: but, as you said, God was gracious enough to let you walk away from it. We have similar types of problems down here with kangaroos and, to a lesser extent, wombats. I hit a roo at 100kms a couple of years ago, the roo had been hit by a car very close in front of me & came bowling out from underneath the car where I had no chance of missing it. I hit it midships & just went up & over, unbelievable a very small mark & quite a bit of poo on the bike were the only consequences. God is good!!!! Hope to see you around here still and a replacement Triumph when the time is right.

We have kangaroos to watch out for.

If you're really on the ball you can go under them as they jump

But glad to hear you're not badly hurt.

Edit: AusSteve, you beat me by that much :-D

Hi Mercator,
You like me have been very lucky. I am very glad that you are not hurt badly just bruised. Sorry about your ride. at least the bike can be repaired. It's easier to fix than you are.
Good luck with the repairs, before you know it, you'll be back in the saddle.

cheers,
davem

Wow! Thank goodness you weren't hurt. Sorry to hear about your bike, though, but I'm sure you'll be back on board in no time.

I certainly think about deer all the time while on rides through the forests of Idaho. I've seen a few crossing the road in front of me, but they were far enough ahead that I could avoid them.

Best wishes for a speedy (bike) recovery!

Good that your OK. Who cares about a bike really. They can be easily replaced. If my dealer was 250 miles away, I can honestly say I would not buy another one. It's not worth the hassle. Luckily mine in 12 miles away. Love Triumph's but I love convenience more.
