Just wanted to post up some pics and info on my bike, it’s a Sprint RS that I’ve owned for years and have been modifying it into the perfect bike for me. I personally think that Triumph should build this exact bike!

Anyway, first I tried a Corbin saddle, comfortable but too slick so I went for the Sargent, it’s very comfortable and grips much better than the slick leather of the Corbin. I installed a factory ST grab rail and a factory ST center stand.

I had ran a Two Brothers Racing carbon exhaust for several years but decided to tone it down a bit so I went with a Staintune muffler, I had a Staintune high mount on my old Sprint ST and loved the sound and quality of it so it seemed like the thing to do! I also slapped in a K&N air filter and modified the air box with 2 intake tubes that I routed out to the openings on the fairing, another thing that Triumph should have done since they took the time mold them into the fairings!

Next installed a factory high bar kit; I accidentally bought a kit for an ABS bike so I had to make a little bracket for the brake fluid reservoir not a big deal. The kit is made for an ST and the throttle cables didn’t work on the RS so I just changed the routing of the stock RS cable and its working out great. I did have to route the ST clutch cable over the bars, not ideal but it’s at the perfect angle and is super smooth. I ordered used handlebar electronics and cut the wires and spliced in a few inches of wire into mine, they were long enough but at full lock they were pulled a little too snug for comfort. Along with the high bar kit I ditched the stock wind screen for a Zero Gravity dark tinted touring screen, it is the perfect height for me with the new bars and doesn’t look too bad!

I also swapped in a Sprocket Specialist rear sprocket and went up 2 teeth over stock; I did raise the highway RPMs up a little but for 2 up riding in the WV Mountains where I live it made it a little zippier. I’m also running Continental Road Attack tires with EBC HH brake pads front and back. I have a factory tank bag that I use for longer day rides, it works out great for most things that I haul. I do think Im going to look for a used rear rack and top box for overnight trips, I don’t need full side bags but more room would be great. Anyway I thought I would share some info on my baby, its been a several year project in the works! I am going to try my luck with making some mirror extenders out of fiberglass, being an RS they are not as wide as the ST, the do the job but only half of the mirror is usable, unless you want to check your arms for bugs!

Anyway, here are some pictures!

Thanks!!! My first Triumph was a Sprint ST, when I sold it it had just shy of 45,000 miles on the clock, I then bought a Speed 3 but didnt like the riding position at all, too tight and not enough wind protection, so I bought the RS.... Ive had it since around 2003 or so, its been a great bike! I actually bought a used 05 Tiger last year to replace it but I didnt like it at all, thats when I decided to try and modify the riding position of the RS, I did buy an ST header, muffler and rear peg brackets, I was going to try and lower the passenger pegs for her but didnt chance it all not working since I dont have a single side swing arm.... Anyway, I love my RS now more than ever!!!

Removing the terrible chrome " RS " decals from the fairings was a chore, I’m not sure what kind of glue they used but it did not want to let go, but I think it looks 100% cleaner without them... This is, however the cleanest it’s been in years, I usually just clean the lights and ride, some of my riding buddies gave me a hard time that it looked like it had a black rear wheel and a silver front, but those are the guys that spend more time washing and polishing their bikes than they do riding them!!!!

Sorry Im just getting back to you, I didnt realize there were more posts on this one! I got the Staintune on an Ebay store, I do have my carbon fiber two brothers racing Sprint RS setup in my garage that Im getting ready to list in the classifieds if your looking for an aftermarket setup, the stock muffler is a boat anchor! As far as the glue goes, I used goo gone and a LOT of time!! I put 300 miles on her last week, I really love my RS now more than ever!

Thanks, I do have the belly pan and the stock seat with the cowl! I never liked the look of the belly pan, I like the clean, bare look of the RS!! I used some Mothers metal polish on the header and 60% of the yellow / funk came right off, it doesnt match up to the new Staintune muffler but it looks alot better than it did!

If it makes you feel any better I have only washed mine half a dozen times in 7 years of ownership. I have better things to do TBH.

Any more details on how you modified the air box? Pictures? did you notice an increase in performance after the mod?

I dont have any pictures at the moment, basically I got some alloy flex duct and cut a hole in both sides of the air box, inserted the pipe in and sealed it up, and routed it up to the front, where the body has 2 holes that look like intakes but, sadly were not. As far as performance gain, I cant remember how it ran before but I think it made a difference :) When I did this mod I had just installed a new 2 Brothers muffler, K&N filter and remapped the computer, so its hard to say!

The thing about reviving old threads is that they're usually full of posts from people who aren't around anymore. Ilovemountains hasn't been on the site in a year and a half.

Also, the airbox already flows plenty of air as-is, with a paper filter. You would need to do some serious work to make it need more air.

Cheers,
-Kit
