Dropped it !

So, I've been riding bikes on and off since I was 13. I just turned 34 about a month ago and last week I dropped my first bike which just happened to be my 03 Sprint ST. I just got new tires that weren't completely broken in yet. This combined with a twisty and some gravel caused me to fishtail and loose control. I went into a ditch and the Sprint hit the ground. I was lucky enough to walk away with only a sprained foot. I was wearing all my gear and the boots saved my ass. I also wasn't going fast since I was in new territory.

I have collision with a $250 deduct. I felt bad making a claim but thats why we pay for insurance, correct ? The damage to the bike was mostly cosmetic minus the right clip on, brake lever, and brake pedal which were all bent from the weight of the bike. I seem to be getting a pretty nice check from the insurance company, and I plan on replacing all of the damaged fairings with new ones. I'm still having a hard time coming to terms with the cost of some of these parts. I would like to come across some stuff used if possible. If anyone has any of the following I listed earlier please hit me up as I would rather throw my money your way instead of evil bay.

I hope this email finds you all well and make sure to gear up before you roll out ! It only takes a minute to be reminded how quickly you can lose control. It's also no fun to look at your bike just sitting there while the weather is so nice outside.

Ride Safe,
Rob (AKA Gus Walken)

Gus, sorry about the drop, but very glad you were hurt bad. That is exactly why insurance exists and you should have no guilty feelings - You did buy that insurance.

Ditto on the guilt feelings. The insurance companies don't feel guilty taking your money. You are after all just getting what you paid for. Glad you're ok.

HI Gus

sorry about your off but the main thing is you are ok.

It happens to us all at sometime. I have had rather a lot

Mostly in part to being a total looney when I was younger

I did learn a great deal but don't recommend my method of instruction!

Ditto to all above...and yes it happens. Glad you are not too busted up.

..."There are those who have and those who will..." (go down) if one of a hundred things happen. Or bunch of little things all add up. Myself included. Low and high sided years back. Ouch. My only broken bone.

Regarding tires though, after a low speed drop (all my fault) some time ago, after fitting new tires on another bike i have, the whole new tire thing is hammered into my head and i am probably more paranoid than most about it. I always purposefully go out and scrub the tires in WELL before doing anything else.

Don't give a second thought to any small windfall you seem to have gotten from ins. the result of the event. You've paid in a lot more than that over the years i would think. Good to hear someone is being truly "made whole" by an ins. company for once!

Hopefully you are back up and rolling soon.

Glad you are okay. That is why we wear gear. One question--how do you wear the boots on your ass?
