I've been pondering a trade in, my 07 Speed Triple for a lower milage 06 Sprint ST. I like the hard bags as my girl and I do a few overnighters, and the wind screen has to be a plus on long milage days, I'm hoping the riding position little more comfortable too. Has anyone gone from an S3 to a Sprint? Is the power on the Sprint noticeably different? Is the ST more comfortable ride, more upright? I won't be able to test ride until the dealer does his pre-inspection some time next week. Just looking for a few educated/ experienced opinions.
I am considering go the OTHER way, looking at trading in my 08' ST , for that shiny new and incredible sweet 2012 Speed Triple..... and I dont mind the new lights!
I am trading my 2008 Speed Triple for a 2008 Sprint ST this Sunday. So I will tell you how I like it next week. I prefer less upright riding and having a screen and bags is a big plus for me. I guess I am getting old at 26 wanting a sport touring bike, but as far as a ST goes the Sprint is the Sportiest. I compare it more to a VFR800 than anything really.
If your plans are in fact to do more miles, two up, then the ST certainly will more than meet your needs and expectations. I had a Neon Blue '01 Speedie that I always regret selling as it was a gas to ride, but when son number one started college something had to go- I also had a BRG '01 ST at the time. The ST - an '08 is my only bike right now and I'm lucky and pleased to have her in the garage. Good luck on your decision, go out and and flog the Speedie and take some pictures of her before you make the move!!
I went from a 2007 Speed Triple to a 2009 Sprint. I switched because the sprint has better wind and weather protection, hard bags if you need them, fuel gauge (which was a biggy for me) and more distance between fill ups.
I dropped the front sprocket one tooth, which brings the Sprint up to about the same on power..........
Sprint is more comfortable on longer rides, but harder on your hands due to the lower bars.
raised mine up 3/4" which helped a lot.
Love the Sprint.
Shorter gearing sweetens the Sprint up quite nicely.
Like most things its not for everyone, but if you want to take advantage of the bottom end and midrange it works well. Naturally the trade off is top end or highway speed, but I have never missed it.
I also noticed an improvement in fuel economy, probably due to less throttle being required at take off and the engine spinning up a lot easier.
I finally got around to test ride an '06 ST, nice ride. Felt more comfortable on the ST compared to the S3, riding position was better, but the power felt down a bit. Anyway, I spotted an '08 off in the corner that had been lowered, it only had 3,700 miles on it and another $1500 higher in price. The dealer will fit the original shock this week, this is a no brainer. First mod will be exhaust and a tune to get the HP up, then a tail tidy. Those fenders are ugly! What's the most popular, well fitting tail tidy kit? Thanks for all your suggestions and feedback.
Ninja650shop.com, a division of Ducati of Omaha mc shop, sells the R&G tail tidy kits for the Kawasaki ER6N and Ninja 650R. You may want to contact them to see if they can get the desired item for you, or pass you on to a dealer who can...tomp
Had both loved both. Liked the Tiger more because it meets the Sprint and the S3 in the middle.
