This may be common knowledge on this site, although a cursory search didn't show it... Simon Carter of Triumph confirmed the following in an email response to me this morning:
I can confirm that Triumph Motorcycles are currently
working on and testing enhancements to the current
pannier system. All customers will be offered the
opportunity to upgrade their pannier system without
charge once testing is completed and the product is
available.
