OK, now I'm scared! 3 tank slappers in 25 years of riding, 2 of them today. Proper violent slapper that nearly had me in the hedge.
Question is, why?
Road I know well, dry, warm, well within my normal speed range. I went over a small bump and then all hell breaks loose! OK, change underwear, deep breaths, calm down, it's a one off.
10mins later, same thing again and I'm riding a lot slower as still getting over the previous encounter.
Checked the tyres, Bridgestone BT020's, tread seems OK, and pressures OK. All nuts and bolts seem secure, left side of forks covered in grass! (Told you it was close!)
Any ideas? something basic or more sinister?
Would a steering damper help?
Any advice or recommendations?

Thanks

My thought exactly. Try the head bearing torque.

That's what I'd do.

It could be the headstock bearings but a lot of other things can cause it including riding position, road surface etc.

I don't think I'll run right out and get a damper. I'd still check the head stock first.

Thanks for all the info guys.
The links to the various articles were good as well and the videos just bring back too many memories!!

I think I had better check out the head bearing torque.

Anyone any figures for me, any special procedure involved?

Thanks again
