will a '99 Sprint ST alternator fit my '01 bike? I need to replace my voltage regulator and I'm waiting for (***** expensive) parts, but a whole alternator just came up on eBay for a '99. Hmmmmmmm.

Thanks,

Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I believe 2001 model Sprints changed alternator drive types and position. So to answer your question, no a 99 alternator won't work on a 2001 model.

I think you could be right. I believe the size of the direct drive is bigger after 99 ish. So the drive end of the alternator will not fix the hole. My non Triumph mechanic did tell me of people boring out the opening to make um fit. Sounds dodgy! Plus to do this the engines got to be out the bike. WHAT! I only no this because I had a few problems with the alternator on my 99 Speed Triple a few months back. Triumph quoted me something like £500 for a new one. So with the help of Google I did some homework (knowledge is power) to see why something so simple should be so expensive. Anyway long story short, had it looked at by a chap that reconditions alternators and a day later I was back on the road for £30. My advice would be to either buy a reconditioned one or have yours reconditioned. Its 1/4 the price.

The engine and alt. location changes didn't occure until '02.

I agree with Dolson. As a check, call a dealer and see if they list the same part number for '99 and '01.
