I went to Oulton park today to watch the qualifying for BSB. I parked my St up next to my mates pickup. We all sat on the back of the pickup for a better view of the circuit, this then provided a good viewpoint of my ST and the attention the bike draws.
It was quite funny as nosers didnt realise the St was mine and must of presumed the owner was elsewhere.
I lost count of how many guys mumbled VFr this and v-tec that...... and silly remarks like' the mirrors wobble' .... 'luggage is no good'....' triple pipes'...and people poking and pointing at this and that.
The touring scotoiler caused a lot of confusion too, i heard one guy comment ' is it a 2 sroke cos its got a oil tank'...doh !
What seemed quite obvious by the attire of some of them is that they probably ride a vfr ( honda t-shirts + caps) and view the St as some sort of silly threat, it seems they spend their days standing in asda reading bike magazines rather than taking a demo ride for a proper unbiased view of the triumph.... you only have to look on 'the other' site to see the what i mean.
Now after watching this for the best part of a day i came up with a good market research idea. if triumph had parked a new bike out of its range in various places around the circuit and fitted a tape recorder just think of what 'opinions' would be obtained.
I got fed up in the end and my mate wrote a note on a piece of paper and wedged it in the seat saying 'IF I WANTED A VFR I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE.... Best of british ! ' ....
That caused a bit of a to do !

I rarely see VFR's on the streets here. All GSX/R1/ZX10's for ANY sport bike.....
The rest are Harley's.
Never see Triumph on the road. Whatever. I like having a bike no one has.

Hi guys,
Sounds like your frequenting places only "Born again sunday biker" or neandethal (?) man frequents , to get a stream of comments like that !
Regardless of weather I'm out regularly with a mix of other serious riders, mostly sports tourers, some are VFR owners, & even a couple are VTEC guys.
After the usual "progressive riding" most DO admit the ST is a cracking bike, + several VFR owners even admit the SPRINT ST IS the bike the new VFR should have been !
I'm happy to compare SPRINT ST with VFR's as anyone with HALF a braincell REALLY knows the Sprint is the beter bike !
Having owned 3 dozen + Honda's & having ridden VFR750's, VFR800 & later VTEC VFR800 (which is absolutely PANTS),
i'm proud to ride a SUPERIOR SPRINT ST.
In facty my 04 blade's only been out TWICE
(& that was only on the track) since my ST arrived in June.
If they just don't get it, then bloody TOUGH !
as it leaves us with more exclusivity of owning a
superior Triumph Sprint ST !
WELL DONE TRIUMPH !
Neil.

I've got an '00 RS and I get many people telling me, "Hey cool looking GSXR", or something of that nature... I even had a "KID", riding a VFR ask me why only 3 head pipes and what happened to the fourth one??? Guess the obvious was to much for him. Anyway, I've been on many, many different bikes over the years and I've got to say, this machine is best!

The attention can be annoying .... I had one sexual intellectual ask me, while looking at my '01 Sprint, where I got the Triumph stickers to put on the Honda. This same NASA reject then proceeded to tell me that no mater what I did it was still a POS jap bike and couldnt compare to the old Triumphs.
What ever happened to the days of young ladies just wanting a ride. Guess that went away with my hair.

Like my Mum says,
Don't argue with a fool. bystanders won't be able to tell the difference :-D
Owned Hondas, Suzis and even a Hodaka. I like my ST, think I'll keep her!

VFR is a good bike, but I like my Sprint. I took a test ride on both and I like the Sprint better. Most of the guys that I ride with ride VFR's, BMW's and a couple of FJR's, but I like my Sprint and I don't mind the attention. When we are all stopped everyone has to look at my Sprint. She's not the fastest, but that is because of the rider not the bike, I'm slow no matter what I'm riding. Just relax and bask in the glow, then start her up and ride.

Best sum up I read in a recent magazine.
If you want a VFR...go ahead and buy one! But you'll be ignoring all the evidence that suggests it has been knocked off its perch by the Sprint ST...
Wobbly mirrors, ***** luggage, heat etc etc There will surely be more gripes as time progresses. But its my bike, my choice, I love it.
