Saturday morning I'm off for a week of perusing Wyoming. I'm meeting my brother in Montana (on his slow blue '00 RS) and we're going in search of curvy roads, good food and beer. We do a ride every other year. In two previous trips we've done Banff/Jasper/Glacier and Moab. This time there is no big destination, just a ride.
I'll take pics and try to post a report when I get back..if I don't get busy riding and forget to take pictures.
I need a mental defrag and these rides are great for that.
Matt

Yellowstone through Teton is nice, as is Yellowstone over to Cody. The Cody road is in a gorge so it is nice and twisty, in good repair, and the traffic is admittedly less than the Teton route. Teton has the world famous eye candy though. I havent done the off highway road around teton but I am not certain it is paved. The rangers would know though.
Most of WYO is pretty wide open. Ive covered the gillette area, Cheyenne area, and the Wind River country, and most are wide open vistas and long straight roads. Nice and relaxing, but not too exciting.

Oh and Cody has lots of good food and beer. I spent a week there for work last year and enjoyed it. The museum is decent too, especially for a town that size, if you like old west type historical stuff, or guns, as they have a massive firearms museum there too.
As I recall Jackson Hole has good food and beer too, but its kinda nouveau riche' like Aspen and so prices may shock you unless you get to the locals' hangouts.

What route are you going to take to Montana? Where over there are you meeting up with your brother? I haven't ridden too much into WY but might be able to help with MT.

Thanks guys.
I'm riding over to Lewiston, Idaho Saturday and staying with the in-laws. Lolo Pass on Sunday...can I get an amen...morning and pretty much I-90 to Big Timber/Bozeman area.
I like off the beaten path mountains (Utah's Uintas, Douglass Pass in Colorado, Californias North Coastal Range) so I'm headed for the Snowy Mountains in southern Wyoming. We'll probably do a big loop of the state with no set destination.
I've ridden the Tetons a few times but never explored the rest of the state. Should be fun.

Some friends just rode through Wyoming and Yellowstone last weekend. the east entrance from Cody up to the first pass (which I think was Sylvan) is under construction. Lots of loose gravel, etc.. If you're planning a route through that area it's worth calling the park to confirm the length/location and extent of construction just to be sure and safe.
Just a heads up in case you had planned a route through there.

Glad you brought this Wyoming riding up, a buddy and I are heading out that way from Minnesota saturday the 17th. Probably hit yellowstone, teton, and head south (if we push it over 10 days we can hit the grand canyon) and then back through rocky mountain national park in Colorado.
Looking on maps and on google.earth.com hwy 14 in Wyoming just west of Sheridan, Ranchester, and Dayton looks to be one of those "must go there" roads.
As always, ride hard but ride safe!

I just did a drive trip to Jackson Wyoming. Spent time around the Tetons and Yellowstone. What a magnificent area. Wish I had done it on a bike.
A word on road construction. If you are coming up from 80 into Jackson - can't recall the road but it goes through Alpine - they are doing major road work as you approach Alpine and it was loose dirt and gravel for about 5 miles. Saw lots of bikes making the trip but at a very slow pace.
Have a great time.

If you haven't done it yet, the road from Cody over Beartooth Pass into Red lodge, Mt. ( a cool little town) is not to be missed. Going thru the Cheif Joseph Scenic Byway is quite an experience. If you turn around & reverse the trip it's even better. It might get a little chilly up on top, but no big deal. A few good spots to take pix too. Last summer I got a few good up-close shots of a mountain goat...wish I was there right now. There's a beautiful lake up there that looks like a post card.

The last time I checked Beartooth was closed (mudslides).
Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll make a list and see if I can do some of them. Cody sounds like a good overnight place.
