Hello all, I am a newbie and am purchasing my first motorcycle tomorrow if all goes well. Its a 2002 Sprint ST with 9k on it. What should I look for as far as common problems? What should I watch out for? I have very limited experience on any bike so a test ride isnt going to tell me much. I plan to learn on this bike? All of your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Oh yea. One more question. This bike is located at Hermy's Cycle in Port Clinton PA. Is anyone familiar with the dealer or maybe even the bike? It is a Blue 2002 with 9k.

Check the DEALER FORUM on this site if you're curious about Hermys.

Also, aside from the usual maintenance items (chain wear, tire wear, oil changes, etc.) make sure all the recalls are up to date (i.e. fuel fittings). You can check those on the http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/ website. Just navigate the recalls section.

Other than that just go easy at first and get used to her. You only go as fast as you twist the throttle!

Enjoy!

Good choice. You won't have any problem with that bike. Good Luck

I upgraded to an '02 Sprint a few thousand miles ago. There really aren't any problems specific to this year.

It'd be good if the dealer can show you the stamped maintenance booklet confirming the 600 mile and 6000 maintenance. The 600 mile maintenance includes a valve clearance check which is pretty important. If they can't show proof of that, I'd ask that the dealer do that as part of the deal.

Good luck!

Also, run the VIN by a Triumph dealer, they can confirm what if any recalls have been done to that bike.

Enjoy!

... and just be sure not to become overwhelmed by the bevy of hotties that will be attracted to your fine new ride.

Hermies and Martins are doing a ride to MD this Sunday. Good time to take the bike for a ride. I could have sold you my 02 ST :hammer:

WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO went for my first ride yesterday!!!!! OMG what an ridiculous rush. As I said, its my first bike so I am grinning ear to ear because I love my Triumph and because I am still way to afraid to even think about exploring any of the bikes potential. I dont think I had the guts to push it past 5000 rpm in any gear and I never got past fourth. We will go again today!! Thanks for all the support to everyone out there who gave me positive feedback, I owe you guys one. :-D :-D :-D
