Just reached 25,000 miles on my 01 Sprint.
Coming down the gears to a red light and the engine quits and oil light comes on. Engine restarts.
Same thing happens again next day. Now I'm worried that the one time in the future, it won't restart.

I think it maybe a faulty side stand kill switch.
Any one else had problems with this?

No tick over is fine.
In fact I was returning from a major dealer service!!
It was just like someone put on the kill switch.

My 2001 did that a bit. I could tell when it was going to quit, and I'd flick the throttle a little to prevent it from stalling.

Might need to get a re-map.

yeah, it was just remapped, so I wonder if the new map is the problem. Never had any problems before the service.

Other Motorcycle: I wish
Side stand switch is very common on many motorcycles as a cause of this problem.

I'd have it checked out.

I'm having this same thing happen. I just took Lucy over to a local guy down the street and he said it looked like it was related to the recalled fuel fittings.
He said it looked like gas was leaking back down into the air box and the tricky little vacuum thing was not plugged in.
He had more of an explanation on how this fuel thing may have caused the symptoms but I really didn't understand what the hell he was talking about.
I'll post more when I know more. I'm ordering the parts because my dealer can't get her in sooner.

I called my dealer and he said that the new map was the problem and so he will remap it for me.
After some more riding, I have noticed that the engine rpm drops off to below idle under 2000 rpm and then the engine may quit. So it would seem the dealer maybe right - remap the engine.

Hermys, the dealer in east PA, remapped the engine for me and yes - problem solved, no more engine quitting off idle. The mechanic took some time to really tweak it right. He said he made it deliver more fuel in low revs.
You know how Sprints don't like being below 3000 rpm? well after the remapping the engine is even smooth under 3000.
Thanks Hermy!!

Phil
