I have an 885 Tiger and am thinking about buying a 1050 Sprint. Anyone know if insurance costs go up significantly when crossing the 1000cc mark?

While we all know rates will depend on several factors, I have a 1998 , 885cc Tiger and an 2006, 1050 Sprint. Same coverage on both. I'd have to check my ledger to be spot on but the Sprint went up by about $125/year for the same coverage.

Both my bikes, our two cars, house insurance, etc., are all with State Farm here in Colorado. I did some digging with several places before insuring the Sprint and found some more expensive, some slightly less. The lower rates weren't sufficient to warrant switching in my case.

You're correct --- there is a jump over 1000 cc. When I called State Farm they gave me their cut off points, but sorry I don't recall exactly what they were.

hope that helps

huc, thanks for the reply. There probably won't be enough difference in cost to change my mind, but just curious.

How do you like the ABS on the new Sprint? I did a test ride on an '05, which as you know, did not have ABS. It may be later in '06 before I make the move on the Sprint though, so I may end up with an '06. I've never ridden a bike with ABS and I've heard some guys dislike it.

ABS...
Truthfully I don't even know it's there. The brakes feel and act like any other bike which is a good thing in my mind. I haven't really pushed the brakes hard enough as yet to get the abs to kick in... although i did feel them a bit when I was braking, hit a very abrupt manhole cover and the front tire lifted just a bit.

With any luck I'll get some track day time this month and will be able to try the brakes harder in practice to get a better feel for how the abs kicks in. When I find more I'll post back

My St abs cost me an extra £95 on top of my Sv1000s policy. The St 's value was double the Sv so not bad at £340 fully comprehensive.

The Gecco quotes $419 for me. I got it locally for a couple bucks less. Yours may vary depending on how you answer the 100 questions they asked me. I'm in rural Indiana.

My ST ABS cost approx £80 on top of my 04 CBR1000RR policy, making £400 fully comp with all the bells & whistles on the policy.
The St value is approx 9.5k (with all the bits) & the RR's is 7.5k.
I't'd also be a lot less with a LOWER ins group main bike! :-D
