OK, I can tell that bar risers are the ultimate answer to improving the comfort on my new ST. Sport Tourers are supposed to be comfortable!!! Mine is fine for about 20-30 minutes, but then my hands ache, so I need to extend that comfort...

Suggestions? BTW, I'm 5'8" tall and 53 y/o for references.

Looks like I have the following choices...

Gen Mar risers. I saw a nice photo of these with a .375" spacer for a total lift of 1½".

Heli Bars...up 2" and back 1½". Pricey but they look the best for me?

LSL bars. Betcha these are pricey, too, but coolness is way up!

More ideas would be welcomed...

Hi, and welcome.

Try running a search on this as the use of risers or not, is pretty much an on going topic.

Hi Katrider,

I'm 5' 9" and 52, with chronic low-level lower back pain (caused by activities other than riding btw!).

The Genmar risers work fine for me - but I ride recreationally and rarely commute, and riding at speed takes the weight off your wrists.

As Dolson is hinting, there are a range of things that account for wrist pain and that you can do about it.

Hi Katrider,

Having put Heli bars on my ST very recently, I can say they are definitely worth the expense. They are very well made and allow you multiple adjustment options to get that just right fit. And they are a nice company to deal with too.

It was not necessary to replace the brake line or cables. I did reposition the throttle though, so the throttle cables run under the brake lever.

Good luck.

This is probably the one topic on this site that has caused more division than any other. "Don`t go there dude!" We`re all too outspoken and have 2 distinct camps.

I had them on for about a year then took them off for this season. I put them back on yesterday just to get another comparison. For highway drowning, the bar risers are kind of nice but for twisties i don't like them at all. I think they change the handling of the bike too much. Not enough weight on the front end maybe I'm not sure.

This is what I'm thinking too, and am wondering if the Gen mars give more control in the twisties??

No. I have the genmars and don't like the way they make it feel. I suspect it's not the genmars as much as it is the elevated bars. They can be removed and reinstalled in less than 5 minutes so it's not a big deal. I'm going to leave them on for a while just to see if my opinion changes.

I think Zore hit it on the head, the Genmar's change the rider position just enough to make the bike somewhat sluggish going into corners. Long distance on the highway, their fantastic. Ive taken mine off after getting a corbin saddle which seemed to place me a little higher on the bike, and havent seen the need to put them back on.

katrider, you should be able to pick up a set of used genmars for around $70. so it might be worth a try. You can always resell, their a popular item here and go quick.

Good luck.
