I purchased the Brakeaway and have had mixed results. I took a trip of about 350 miles on the slab and it rarely held the throttle where I wanted it - it would either rev up or slow down. I found that you had to click it on and then play with the throttle to get it right. Also, after clicking it on and off throughout the trip it stopped engaging entirely on the way home. Once I got home and gave it a rest it worked again but still would not hold the throttle without some hand work. Maybe it needs to be adjusted somehow, but so far I am not that impressed. Plus it costs $200.

Yes, it sounds like you need to adjust it. The instruction sheet shows you how. It was so tight that I would rev the engine every time I tried to engage it, and then it was hard to adjust it after that. I adjusted mine because of the same things, it was hard to get it to lock, and it was very tight so I adjusted it out just a little and then it was and has be great since.

Cat O-ring. Works great and was a whopping $4.

Bowillyard,

How did you "adjust" it - it sounds like you had the same symptoms I am experiencing.

There is an adjustment hole that you stick on of the Allen wrenches in, lock the BrakeAway, slightly loosen the two small Allen screws then, by using the Allen wrench as a lever loosen the BrakeAway so that it will just hold the throttle in place.

Section 4 of the manual does a better job of describing this than I can:

It made a big difference.

Does the metric cruiser version work with the Triumph heated grips? The heated grips appear larger in diameter than the regular grips. I am considering adding the brakeaway but want to make sure the will fit. Is anyone using it with the heated grips?
