I just tried a 2004 sprint st with 8100 miles on it and really liked the motor. The front end felt a little bouncy but everything else seemed to jive. My question is this: has anyone out there ridden the sv 1000 and the sprint st and has some riding comparisons that they can relate? The comparison can be either former models or the current 2005 models. Thanks

My last bike was a sv1000s. I did 6000 miles in 12 months on it. Took it over to WSB in assen for a 1500 mile weekend with soft luggage.
i toured scotland again with soft luggage and covered a very fast 1300 miles or so..
The Sv is a crackin bike for the price but they depreciate a hell of a lot in the 1st year so dont pay list prices.
Main problems are early models had dodgy main bearings that made a knock sound at idle.. some were repaired under warranty but no recall was done. this was on the very early SK3 and k3 models.
Performance wise they are a bit of a beast.. with decent cans and an igition remap and a decent filter 110 bhp and 70ft lbs are at the back wheel. they will embarass more expensive bikes ithrough the twisties as they pack instant puch out of corners. Very easy to ride fast on twisty roads and no dancing needed on the gear shift ...so easy just rolling on and off the throttle
110 mile tank rangebefore reserve light shows aint bad either for a v2.
Comfort wise the seat is hard and thin and to make it handle the suspension needs to be set firm so its no armchair of a ride.
For a good insight try www.sv1000.zyns.com

The St05 is a differrent tool in comparison and is one of the finest bikes in the mainstream you can buy. Lot comfier, a lot smoother to ride and is in a different league from the Sv completely... they are 2 totally different bikes so its not really easy to make comparisons.
try both and then you will buy the ST !

When I got my ST I was about to trade my Kawi Concours in on an SV or FZ1. Might have done OK with FZ! but after riding with a guy on an SV I was sure I had made the right decision. By the way, the guy the SV sold his in a short time. The ST will do anything the SV will, only better.

On the bouncy front end, change the fork oil is a cheap fix, put HyperPro springs in mine, a bit more expensive but easy and relatively cheap.

I don't care much for Suzuki cars or bikes, so I am too biased to speak on it. -_-
