I suspect others have done this, but looking at my mirrors yesterday, I thought the pivot spot was a press-to-friction and that putting more force on it would tighten the mirrors but its not and therefore, it doesn't. I ended up taking some transformer wire ( solid core, I think 18 or 20ga ) and Winding it between the stack of washers and the mirror arm. Now, my right side of the windscreen isn't bouncing AND I can see things in the mirrors again!. I left a long loop in side the "boot" so when it gets loose again, I can add more turns.
