anyone else have this problem? the speedo just reads zero and the odometer is frozen half the time i ride, from the beginning. i stopped today, shut it off and then re-started twice and the second time it worked again. it has never stopped working while riding.
also, does anyone know if there is anything operating off the "accessory" fuse on an rs? there is a short in this circuit so i pulled the fuse, otherwise the battery is dead in a couple of hours. j

jellero,
I am not very knowledgeable about electrics but I had an after market alarm on my last bike that drained the battery?

Like I said........ don't know much about electrics, just a thought.

The speedo (and odo) are fed through the ECU.
Now a bad battery, or bad battery connectors can cause erratic behaviour and as such not juicing up enough the ECU.

Check also for bad connectors, badly seated fuses and relays.

What do you mean with the "accessory fuse"? (don't have my manual here...)

Sound like the wheel speed sensor to me. I had the same symptoms, happened after a tire change.

Had that exact problem on the 02 Sprint and replaced the battery and all symptoms disappeared. As the the thread reads; check the condition of your battery and all the connections for corrosion. Cheap and easy fix.

speed sensor and battery both crossed my mind... having the battery get shorted dead a couple of times didn't do it any good. where is the speed sensor? how does it work? i was riding today and speedo worked. i stopped and took off and it didn't so i pulled in clutch, turned off key, then on again and dropped clutch to start. did this twice and speedo worked again.
accessory fuse- i took each fuse off and put an ammeter on the fuse connections with battery hooked up, key off. one fuse was still hot. i spoke with service at the triumph shop and he looked it up as the accessory fuse. i don't have any that i know of so pulled it and the battery drain stopped. what is the ECU? all connections are clean, only 1600 miles on bike, garaged, dry climate. j

The speedsensor is connected on the right side (axle) of the front wheel (I think). I read that it is easily chewed up if badly re-fitted.

But with what you describe it looks like an electrical problem to me.

The ECU is the SAGEM computer controlling the injection. From the '02 models on the speedo is fed through the ECU.

The fact that there is a short somewhere is not healthy, but not necessarily related. I'll dive into the manual to check the wiring on the RS tonight (CET).

I'm still inclined in a bad contact somewhere...
