I have this small problem, on a Sprint 04 with the oil pressure warning light coming on. It does come on weakly when the bike is at high temperature. The iddle seems to go down to 1000 at high temperature and the oil pressure light flashes. If I open the throttle a bit it goes away.

Anybody had that problem ? I am thinking that I will use tuneboy to put the iddle at high temperature a little higher than 1000, which should take care of the problem.

Let's get the obvious DUH questions out of the way :-D
Is your oil level up and proper? Is the viscosity of the oil proper for your local ambient temperature conditions? IS there a temp. problem, or is this happening at a normal operating temperature?

Were me, I'd check that all the above were as they should be, then see the dealer. It is still under warranty. He should check for faults, this might show something amiss. If there is a problem, at least you have started a paper trail and go from there.
There could be many causes for this.
Is your cooling system ok? It could have a bubble in it and needs to be burped. This could cause the engine to run hotter than normal, causing your oil's viscosity to drop a bit.

If you have a TuneBoy this should tell you if there any faults. I don't think I'd arbitrarily set the idle higher without checking everything, cooling or oil related first, as this could mask a problem elsewhere.

Like I said though, I'd take it to a dealer and have them explain this out in case it was a bigger problem like the oil pump or a main bearing clearance issue.

Keep us informed on how it goes please as I don't remember anybody else that has had this problem.

Don

One thing I would check is to make sure the idle is set properly. Mine seems to idle at 1200rpm if memory serves me but I'd check the service manual. And of course check the obvious as dolson mentioned.

The obvious is all checked. I was talking about iddle because I think I have read in the shop manual that the iddle should be at 1200 rpm. I will first check that again and many other check. Everything fail I will go to the dealer to see what is happening.

I did check everything and did a bit of reading and playing. Using Tuneboy, I did check for errors code and there were none. I changed the mapping but I have no idea what map was in there but from the number it seemed like a Daytona map. The map was not recognise by Tuneboy.

I used the 10130 as a base and raised the RPM at 74 to 94 degrees by 50 RPM. With this, no more light and the pop up on decel has left me. According to triumph manual the RPM should be 1200 and if there is a variation of more than 50, the throttle position sensor should be adjusted. I did let the engine run for a full temperature cycle and the variation on the RPM is in the range of 500.

As soon as possible I will balance the throttle bodies and adjust the throttle sensor. After that I will try to lower the target RPM to see if it stays there.

You are giving me a nice incentive to go and see the dealer. I now think that I am better off making a paper trail of the problem.

Hi Saigon5,
I havent seen you here much lately.

I have not had this problem but like the wise Don and the experience of 2ndspace I would get your machine to the dealer and get it at least documented and thoroughly checked out.

cheers
davem

Well I was quite busy riding. I did three weeks and 1/2 in Europe and now I am just coming back from 2 track days in the Jason Pridmore Class school before leaving in a few weeks for a week ride in North Carolina. The whole idea of getting a bike is to ride the thing.

To go back to my oil light, from what I was able to see is that the throttle bodies are out of sync and the throttle position sensor is in need of asjustment. The variation in iddle should not be more than 50 RPM according to the Triumph manual but on my bike at the moment it is in the range of 300 RPM. At the moment I did make a temporary fix by increasing the target iddle but will go to the dealer next week to make sure that it is documented.

I went to the dealer today and tehy replaced the sensor for the oil pressure light. As soon as I got back home, it was on again. Seems like it will be a lot worst than i wanted. They will have to go and look at the oil pump......
