Took my cover off while preparing the bike frame for paint, and discovered 7500 miles of yuck built up inside the cover. PJ1 Black makes a heck of a deposit, especially when mixed with sand. A half-hour in mineral spirits and a toothbrushing and all is good.

(I have painted my silver bike's frame Satin Black because the original finish was badly discolored by fuel leaking from the recalled fuel fittings.)

Try Motul Road. Follow directions. Stays on the chain. It will pick up dirt if your on those kind of roads ( i am) but i clean and oil every 500 miles so no big deal.

Yep, this is a drawback to a chain. I regularly pull off my cover every few thousand miles and clean it out. I use a little WD40 to loose up some of the gunk blow it out.

On the other hand, if you let the goop get thick enough, it can start re-applying itself to the chain. :-D
