I bought an 05 Sprint and I've put about 1500 miles on it. My only complaint is that my fingers start going numb after about 20 minutes of riding. I installed a set of Gen Mar risers, but I'm still having the problem. Any suggestions? I cannot find anyone who makes replacement bars for the 05. FYI... Helibar is "thinking" about it, but they are waiting to see if there is a demand for them.

I was having the same problem. I corrected my posture, started keeping my weight off my wrists, and keeping my elbows bent. Finally I figured out that I was putting the wrist strap of my gloves on too tight :P I went on a 440 mile ride from Albuquerque to Durango & back on Wednesday, and my hand didn't get numb once. Interestingly, it was only my right hand that would get numb before.

Have you adjusted the angle of both levers to suit your wrist angle.... if you ride with a finger or 2 covering the brake / clutch in the wrong position the tingle starts.

Also adopt a more loose grip on the bars and make sure you gloves are the right fit..

Too date i havent ridden a more comfy / tingle free bike than the ST

You may also want to try different gloves. I went to gel palmed ones from Joe Rocket, and most of the problem (throttle hand, mostly) went away.

I second the posture comment above. You should be able to steer the bike with your fingers. Try to push your belly toward the tank while your shoulders stay back. Many folks slouch over the tank, and put a lot of weight on their wrists and hands.

This is a very well known issue with Sprinters...especially for those of us in our "middle" years. I'm still thinking about changing the bars, but this year as with last, the more I ride the less the problem shows. I'm constantly reminding myself to loosen the death grip and keep the weight off the wrists. I also try to keep the wrists as straight as I can. On the 2 day ride out to Mid-Ohio I wore my gloves the whole time...and it was really hot...and that helped. At the track I bought a pair of Olympic gel gloves, vented for summer riding, and they helped a bunch on the ride home. I'd still like to get some bars that flatten the wrists a bit, but it's not as high a priority as it was earlier...

targetdude,
this is just an idea, but I found my old Dainese riding gloves had a seem that caused what you are discribing by cutting of circulation. Just a thought.

I have some Triumph solid billet bar risers but havent fitted them as I like the std bars.

I bought a pair of Mechanix gloves from walmart for like $20 and a pair of 'crampbusters' for about the same money. WORLDS of difference. I also have been working on my posture and keeping the glove straps loose on my wrists, and it makes a huge difference. Way less tingle than the VStar, and way more range. I rode the VStar once over 200 miles and that was to trade it in. I ride 3-400 with the Sprint no problem.

I put an aftermarket "throttle lock" device on the end of my throttle grip. It wraps around and has a flat pad on top to rest the palm of my hand on during a ride. It allows me to maintain speed without having to wrap my hand around the grip. There are numerous ones on the market for about $10.
