I killed my Sprint this morning missing a squirrel. I low-sided it at about 20 mph. My jacket, pants and helmet got scrapped up but I didn’t get a scratch. I’m really stiff from hitting the ground at my advanced age (ha! Ha! Ough!). The bike on the other hand got the worst of the encounter. The left side is trashed. The fairing, mirror, signal etc., and the shifter are all going to have to be replaced. I think I may be getting a pellet gun soon.

I believe I would have run over the little "tree rat" and let animal control pick up the mess.

I think squirrels are cute and fun to watch but no way I'd sacrifice my body and bike to avoid hitting one. I guess I'm just not as spiritually evolved as I thought I was hehehe.

It's instinct. You do not want to hit anything. I avoid things without even thinking about it. You think "If I hit it, I could lose it" so you avoid. I did the same with a jack rabbit on my VFR. I was in a turn, saw it, avoided it, ran on the shoulder lost it at 10mph....

Get her back on the road soon.

Hi Bowilliard,
Sorry to hear about your get off. Not fun no matter the cause.

Viper if your instinct is to avoid hitting something at all cost, you need to retrain your instincts.

I kid you not I will not take the chance of loosing control for anything smaller than a medium sized racoon.
The risk of hitting a critter smaller than that is far less than the risk of taking evasive action at an undetermined speed.

Man sorry to hear that Bo! I'm glad you are ok. Insurance can spot you on the ride, but your health is irreplacable man.

Saftey gear saves the day!
There is always plenty of "shoulda, coulda, woulda" after something like this happens. You did the best you could.
Get her back on the road soon!

Glad to hear that your gear did it's job!

How did the upper fairing do? Mine cracked up pretty good so I had to replace that as well. On the good side the replacement parst showed up pretty quickly. Just installed the R&G framesliders tonight.

Don't let 'em give you grief about the squirrel, I probably would've done the same thing!!
