Well, I found out yesterday what temperatures I can and can not ride in with full protective gear. I left home at 3pm and headed east on I-8, took the lovely Old US Highway 80 before trying to make it to S2. The thing is that while it was approx. 90F+ up until then and just about bearable, it rocketed to 112F within 20 miles or so when I-8 plummets down to the desert floor. And very gusty sidewinds. The grips were sooo hot I thought I had the heated grips on by mistake.......
Oh my God - I just had to turn around ASAP and admit to getting a little panicky. No speed was able to provide any cooling whatsoever and I was praying I wouldn't get pulled over for speeding as I would've gotten hear stroke. Anyway, it cooled off quickly within 15 or 20 miles of turning around and all was good again. My exploration of S2 will have to wait a few months!!
I always wear all of my gear - vented Cortech leather jacket, vented MotoGP leather pants, Arai Corsair, back protector, Sidi boots, gloves. Recently I have been using an EDZ undersuit that is meant to aid cooling etc, best of all it makes getting leathers of easy. Now I know what my heat threshold is - we'll call it 90F!!
Take care
