Had a good ride out today in the Spring sunshine. However on deceleration the burble that we all love seems non existent. Other than that the bike seems fine. Although I am not sure whether the performance is quite as crisp as it was at the end of last year.
Had it serviced a couple of weeks ago and new air filter, plugs etc. Could some pipe or connection have been disturbed??
There is a hose connected to the airbox which is part of the secondary air injection system that may not have been reconnected when the air filter was changed. The SAIS is where the burble comes from as exhaust gases are reburned for reduced pollutants levels.
Its funny, I was thinking that myself the other day. Then today I was following a line of cars on a twisty up and down moorland road and the thing wouldn't stop popping! I'm not sure exactly why it was doing it, maybe it is gear related. Sounded great though!
got a nice tip from the dealer tech today you can try....
ride the bike a little, then let her sit and cool off for about 3 hours.
start it, and just let it idle, and heat up.....until the fans kick on - shoul be about 10-15 minutes.
Essentially, the ECU will "adjust" itself to any recent changes, upgrades etc at low idle up to heat.
I put on the TOR and had it flashed, and my "burble" was pretty much gone too, at least on decel. Couple days after that, tried this and some of the burble is back!!! did it again yesterday, when I installed a BMC air filter, and OND's "snorkle mod" as well....
Why Dave M. could it not be some part of the SAIS not being hooked up? The post said all that was done was a change of plugs and air filter. No mention of new tunes being done.
My Sprint burbles very nicely thank you. But only with the throttle closed on de-cel.
Could it be possible, when your Sprint was serviced, the idle speed was raised ever so slightly??
Just installed K&N filter and new plugs. NO BURBLE! Granted, it's a very cool time of year, but I rode her around for about an hour today and only could get some faint hints of the buttery sound.
Will ride it a few more times to see if three heat cycles will do it.
