Is it time for the 05 st to get it`s own forum? Most of the latest postings seem to be about it. It IS quite a different bike after all, I mean the 99-04 sprints have as much in common with the same age Tigers and Daytonas as they do with the 05st. Someone, somewhere, decided that the pre 99 (vintage 900) sprints, should have their own forum which seems to work very well. I`m not for or against the 05 being on the same forum, but I`ve recently bought a new 04 st so I`m more interested in matters relating to that and I`m unlikely to be purchasing a 05 in the next year or two and I`m curious to find out if the other 99-04 riders see the 05 as a natural progression from their own bikes and if they`re interested in all the feedback on it????
And what do the 05 riders think? Do they have much interest in the "old" ST and all its mods and mechanical hints?
Maybe the 99-04 models will soon also be referred to as "vintage sprints."
What do you think?

Good idea, I would not have to sort all the post for the 05 when looking for information.

At first, I thought that there might be a valid reason for different forums. I had a talk with Shawn about this but we decided to see how things went.

After looking at the threads, even though the headings are for '05s, it's pretty much the SOS. Oil, filters, can, horn, seats, tires.
The frame and plastic has changed a bit, but the brakes are the same, as is the suspension. That is pretty much like the differences between the ST's and RS's.

The engine, even though a little bigger is pretty much the same lump. The CPU is different but is not user serviceable anyway. The operation is still the same.

The electrics have changed position but are still the same electrics.

Just a for instance. The heat issue. The ST's have been notorious for melting the right shin leg hair in the Summer in stop and go traffic. It's still coming from the same area and still the same heat source. So, any fix that someone has for the '99 - '04 models would probably work for the '05's and visa versa.

Any question that a newbie has come up with has been pretty much answered by the previous generation bike folks.

Also, there never was a lot of aftermarket stuff out for the ST's and RS's, so we'll just have to see what bling and farkles that end of the industry comes up with for the new bikes.

So, on the whole, even though we have a better, upgraded rocket, the rocket science hasn't changed much.

This, and the fact that all of us seem to have close to the same desires in riding, I think keeps us pretty much as brothers and sisters. I would like to keep that continuity going.

Don

I agree with dolson............... Switching to a 05' only forum could lose viatal info / experience.

As an earlier model owner, I'm happy to have the '05 stuff mixed in so I can get a better idea of the similarities/differences between the bikes.

Yes, I`m happy to go with the flow too, mind you it`s not like we really have much choice in the matter. I definately don`t visit the forum as much as I used to because there aren`t as many postings that are of interest to me. Despite this, I still think it`s one of the best forums around.

Although I own an '02 ST, I like to read how people find the '05 as I may get one in the next year. I prefer only to look at the one forum and up till now this one has been fine. I say keep it Sprint.

One of the benefits of keeping all the Sprints together is that alot of 05 Sprint owners at one time had an earlier generation Sprint. With that in mind they have alot of useful info for us older Sprint owners.
