So, after riding the bike (05 sprint) to the local park to play some disc golf, I was stuck with deciding whether to leave my helmet near the bike to have it stolen or carry it through the course with me (ugh and ugh).
So, as I was taking the discs out of my trunk, I had an epiphany. There is a lockable, accessible tab on these bikes, if you have the 2005+ sprint st with the side bags. It's the mounting tab that sticks into the leading edge of the hardbag's cut-out, just behind the passenger pegs.
Step one, take pannier off of the bike. Step two, remove the rubber nipple from the tab and stick it in your pocket (my D-ring on my Shoei RF-1000 won't fit over the rubber, but will fit over the metal under the rubber). Step the third, slot the d-ring of your helmet over the tab with the helmet's neck opening basically fitting itself over the passenger peg. Step the fourth, replace hard bag locking it on the bike and thus securing your helmet to the mounting post. Step 5, stand back in amazement and ponder whether you're the first one to come up with the solution in the forum.
Don't forget to replace the rubber nipple when removing your helmet when you return to ride.
