Not a advertisement for ASMOIL, but...

Wow, I didn't think changing to a different brand of oil would make a difference. My 2005 Sprint ST has 24,000+ miles on it. I've always used Mobil 1 Racing in it. I changed this week to AMSOIL. It might be my imagination, but I don't think so. The bike seems to run smoother, sounds more solid, and shifts a ton smoother. I'm glad I switched.

Truthfully I had the same experience. It does shift better with that oil over the others I have used.

However, I experienced pretty much the same thing as you. I picked up my used '06 Sprint last August. The previous owner always used Mobil 1 but I quickly put in Amsoil 10w40 and immediately noticed how much smoother it shifted.

I've been using Amsoil in all of my machinery since 1979. Boy, this really does sound like an Amsoil addy, dunnit it?

This has all the makings of the infamous Amsoil threads on the Harley forums! There are thousands of pages!

When I got my 2002 sprint, it had 10,xxx miles, and fresh Mobil 1. At 12,000, I put Silkolene in it. It shifted a lot smoother. Just got some major engine work done at a little over 15,000 miles, and the shop used Mobil 1. Guess what? It shifts even smoother still! Looks to me like I'm still getting my tranny and shifting bits run in. I wonder if she'll be smoother after my next oil change? I wonder what I'll use........?

Ok Ok...I misspelled AmsOil in the original title. Sorry! I'm the worst at typing.

Anyway, I've got 1200 miles on the AmsOil I put in 3 weeks ago. And my Sprint is back to the same clunky shifting as before the oil change. So I guess oil is oil, for the most part.

Motul or Silkolene

Try Motul either semi synth (what I use) or full synthetic, or Silokolene (what Don uses).

Both provide very smooth shifting.

At the risk of ruining an oil thread......

Rotella have a new 5-40W Fully synth Rotella T6 out now..

:caveat: It IS a 'so called' diesel oil but it's working very well in my RS, and I have always used their (previous) 15-40W offering.......

I put it in at 650 miles and did a oil change with it and have not look back.. the bike is sitting in the garage right now with no oil in it due to fact my son took the cracked and broke my funnel. Picked one up on the way home but didn't get to fill it just yet.

FYI the way I know when to change the oil on them bike is when I start missing gears.. So its about 6k or 7k miles depends on how much sitting in traffic I do.
