Poor gas mileage on my 06 Sprint
Just picked this bike up at the end of the season last fall and aside for a 700 mile ride home didn't get to ride it much last fall. I've run 3 tanks through it over the last week or so and I'm only getting around 33mpg! Filled up this morning with 130 miles on the trip meter and it took 4 gallons. I remember seeing a thread before where someone had the same problem but I can't find it now. Any ideas what's causing this? The bike only has 4300 miles on it.

Cobwebs in the air intake tract which is located and can be seen just above the radiator. Clean it out with a small bottle brush.
I would think the motorcycle needs service from lack of use. How long has it been since an oil change?

Just did the oil this past weekend. I'll check the air intake, thanks.

The air intake seemed clean when I put a brush in it just now.

Do an actual calculation based on actual miles and gallons you fill up with over several tank fulls. Then compare that figure with your bike computer readout and post the results.
Other than that, do you notice any indication(s) of a rich mixture? Black smoke, plugs fouling, back of jacket smelling like gas, fellow riders refusing to follow you?

My computer says I'm averaging 40mpg on the last tank and gives an estimated mileage of 168 miles to the tank. I put in 3.9 gallons after riding 130 miles=33.3 mpg. I haven't noticed it burning rich and haven't had the opportunity yet to ride this bike with others so no idea what it smells like on the road. I will be riding about 240 miles this weekend on the highway so I'll see if it does any better then. The last 3 tanks have been mostly to work and back with some semi spirited riding here and there. I haven't really pushed the bike too hard since the roads are still a little gritty from salt and sand.
My '00 Sprint was good for 200+ miles to the tank and this one should be too so I know something is not right although the bike seems to run well.

My 05 has never delivered more than 37 MPG and usually gets between 32-35 MPG. That is over a 15K mile period. My 99 has averaged 45 MPG over 25K miles and has on occassion delivered 50+ MPG. The 1050 is a lot thirstier than the 955 was.

Wow. I'm shocked. I'd heard a few others say they got around that but thought most people were averaging in the 40's. If that's the case I'm really not going to like the range of this bike between fill ups.

ride4321, make sure your computer is set to US gallons, not UK gallons.

My '08 never gets below 45mpg. Most mileage is between 47 & 52.
Anyway, here's the thread that contains re-setting the mileage computer on a Sprint. http://www.triumphrat.net/sprint-for...-computer.html
