Rear linkage needle roller bearing

morning All;,

Pulled the wheels off the bike last night to get new tyres fitted (Gone for Pirelli Angel ST - I'll give a write up once i've put some miles on)

Figured whilst i was there i'd check, clean and regrease the swingarm linkages. Found one of the roller bearings was falling to pieces and seized to the shaft so when i pushed it out all the needles came out with it. The others were a bit stiff but have free-d off nicely.

sooooo i need a new bearing and seals, are these easy to get hold of or is this a triumph only part?

If easy, does anyone know in the UK who could supply this?

thanks

Dean

Sorry if I am preaching to the choir, but bearings and seals are not usually made by auto or motorcycle companies. They are supplied by bearing and seal manufacturers and made to predetermined specs. Vehicle companies select the appropriate bearing and seal for each application from the vendor specs.

In your case, the bearing and seal are:

BEARING, N/ROLLER, 17 x 24 x25
SEAL, OIL 24 X 17 X 5

The specific bearing and seal size is often, but not always, provided in the BikeBandit parts fische. I believe this is where your illustration comes from?

Just take those sizes to a bearing and seal supply house and they will provide them at a much better price than the dealer.

You also need to consider how you install the new bearing and seal to avoid damage. The main issue is to maintain alignment during installation.

Thanks OND for the advice, much appreciated.

I did see the bearing sizes on bikebandit, but where do they obtain this data? i was going to pop the old bearing out and measure it tonight to be sure.

And hopefully my brother should have a suitable bearing-seating tool at his work as he is a mechanic.

if indeed these are the correct sizes, which i think they will be I have found a UK supplier who can get the bearings and seals to me within a few days.

Time to dust off the car then

Good point.

I've always assumed (there's that word again ) that they copied direct from the Triumph parts fische. But, since they edit the part number to their own numbering system I suppose an error could occur. So far, I have had good luck using their seal and bearing dimensions, but have not used the one specific to your question.

Your idea to measure is a good one. In the past, there have been times when I just carried bearings into the supply house and they did the measuring themselves.

If the bearings are shot you probably need the spacers that run inside them as well. I think these may have to be Triumph parts. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

I recently replaced the bearings in my wheel hub, and swing arm. And also wanted to replace the ones in the drag link. I could get all the brg. and seals where I work, except the drag link brg. and race- go figure. So they may be proprietary, and stuck with bike bandit or OEM for a supplier.

OND >> my faith is maintained in bikebandit, the sizes all checked out.

Daytona Dave>> You're right, it's only the one bearing that is shot, and yes the spacer is a little rough. I've sourced the bearing and seals cheaper than triumph but as you suggested the shaft is harder. Being UK based Bike bandit is no good for me and triumph want £30 + VAT

i'm going to assess the shaft condition as i haven't really yet but i might end up having to pay their prices, robbing so and sos
