Lazy, need location of IAC

I know its been posted before, but I'm feeling quite lazy on this late sunday night. So I'm hoping someone will feel it in there heart to post a pic of the early 955 IAC valve location.

Planning on tackling cleaning it out tomorrow as its going to be in the low 50s. A little to cold for a good opening season ride so might as well get the bike in tip top shape before it hits 60.

It rained all weekend so all the salt is off the road, tuesdays supposed to be upper 50s and that may be a good day to head out for an hour or so.

Well took the IAC apart, it was pretty oily and gunked up. A little orange cleaner and some paper towels took all that off and seems to have fixed my stalling issue.

I used to rev it to about 8k and let off the throttle and it would rev down and keep going till it stalled. Now it runs beautifully. Rev all the way up and revs all the way to about 1k and idles. So happy

Now I need to balance the throttle bodies to see if that cures the slight surging at cruising RPM, roughly 3500-5000 RPM. But thats another day

Good job.

I do not think a throttle body balance is going to fix the surging at those RPMs. The throttle bore opening at those speeds will be too large for a bleed air adjustment to be a factor.

Best bet is to ensure all of the mundane things such as plugs, filters are in order. Then, if it really is a problem you might consider taking it to a dealer and have the latest tune for your bike loaded.

FWIW, I've been chasing a similar problem in my 06 and am now fiddling with the MAP. Funny thing is most Triumphs do it because of the fuel and ignition mapping they have to pass noise and pollution laws. Most people do not notice the surging. But, sometimes a minor change, such as seasonal gas formulations, can make it noticeable.

Just noticed this post,

I want to balance the TBs just to have a good baseline, figure they may be out after the sudden stop 2 summers ago.

But new plugs last year, new filter after the wreck (both were oiled up from oil in the airbox)

Surging was quite a lot less than last year and barely noticeable unless I was looking for it. It could also be a bum chain problem but thats being searched for as I type so that'll be swapped by months end (hopefully)

I could look in the haynes but being that we are being lazy...... what is the IAC and what does it do?

I've not noticed it when i've replaced plugs, filter etc on the bike, but then i wouldn't have been looking for it either.

IAC = Idle Air Control

At idle, the IAC provides for the appropriate bypass air to keep the bike idling at the ECU idle target. The ECU processes sensor data and determines how much air is required to maintain the appropriate ratio. It then signals the IAC stepper motor accordingly.

It also affects other operations such as cold/hot starts and engine overrun. But, any problems in those areas should also be accompanied by an idle problem.

All indications are that we have now exceeded our 'lazybones' limit for this thread.
