Try a little graphite in the cylinder.

The rubber seal holds tension against the latching mechanism making it pretty tight against the latch assembly. I always push down on the cap with my other hand to remove this pressure before I turn the key. Same thing in reverse for me, turn the key and press the cap down then release the key. That way there is never any pressure on the plastic latch parts or the key which might break things. I did this from day one as it just seemed to take to much pressure to push the cap down against the catch for an all plastic assembly. My .02 worth.

Hi Dahk,
i broke mine off too. I jusst left the broken peice in the gas cap and got a new key for the ignition.
I thought Lockhart Philips made them but I haven't been able to find one. Maybe one of the sport bike racing parts companies will have them.

Lightech makes a keyless gas cap for the Sprint. I haven't bought one for my RS, but I do have one on my RZ track bike. They look and work great, 1/4 turn and off. I haven't put one on the RS because the cap sticks up about a 1/4" and I have a tank bag that I think it will rub on.

I've always done the same thing, on my sprint and my kats.
