Hey guys,

I'm wondering if anyone uses a throttle lock or cruise control on their Sprint. If so, what type do you use, and how do you like it?

There are a number of different opinions floating around the forum: the three biggies I've read about are the

1) caterpillar O-ring you rollin the gap between your bar end and twist grip = $3 . . . check a few older posts from the last 2 weeks and you'll likely find another discussion on it with more info.

2) the brakeaway, pretty slick design in my opinion, disengages when the brake is squeezed, ~$200

3) the throttlemeister - I have this one and at $100 I am satisfied (not spending any more on it). it saves my wrist and is good for itermittant use. It can be a bit hoaky to get it set, but once you figure it out while riding it's not a problem

my 2 cents

You can view the BrakeAway installed on my '05 Sprint ST if you'll click on my Photo Album below.

It is a very adjustable device as I was able to easily transfer it from my Speedmaster to the new Sprint with no problems. Highly recommended.

I just completed a 5500 mile trip and I use the stupid Oring trick.

You can use the Catapillar unit or a #321 std oring will also do the job for less than a $1.

The oring will slowly slip, and I mean slowly.

The Oring allows movement of the throttle at any stage.

Why spend bucks for something when you don't have to?

no throttle lock is a true cruise control, you will slow down as you go up a hill and you will speed up as you go down a hill because you aren't providing extra or restricting throttle.

i try to use mine if i can see i'll be on fairly level ground for a little while. at most i only have mine engaged for maybe five minutes. i've heard on this forum of an electronic cruise available from an auto parts store that can be adapted to the bike, but if i were to do it i'd do it over winter so i wouldn't screw up any of the electronics during prime riding season.

Before ordering my Brakaway, I corresponded via e-mail and found them to be very helpful and responsive. The product worked great on my '03 Speedmaster and works equally great on my "05 Sprint ST.

There is so much adjustment built in to it that I can't imagine it not working on any bike with normal grips. (Orange County Choppers excluded :)

Here's the contact I used...
