Belt drive 1050 ST
Saw a 1050 ST in a trailer yesterday that had belt drive, couldn't get close enough in the traffic to hail the driver and ask him what it was all about - Reg # is YUMMY, if the owner is on this site I'd love a reply - Any one out there know who makes a belt drive conversion for the ST?

In the meantime, what would be the point/benefit of having a belt? (I've never had a belt driven bike).

There was an older gentleman from Viriginia that used to make them for the Speed Triple and possibly the Sprint. You might have to Google it to find it, and I am not sure he's still doing it. It was around $900. I think the site below is who I was thinking of:

Another fix looking for a problem to solve. Well, I guess Massey had to put them on so doctors and lawyers could have their weekend persona.

Nice system! The price is a problem.

For those that have ridden belt-driven bikes, does this "lessen" the minor bit of final-drive lash that chains are subject to?

We've discussed the belt drives before.
While it would be great- for a quiet, vibration-free, low (almost zero) maintenance technology, the transmission (and, probably the rear end) were not designed for the increased tension required by a belt drive.
So, it'd be a good probability that you'd have a premature failure of a bearing on one end or the other.

After a second look, I think I would reject the system because it looks like you have to pull the swingarm to replace the belt. Would be rough if you had a failure while on the road.
+1 on what Pushr0d said.
